Our School

Glen Ogilvie staff, students, and parents work together to create a positive environment of mutual respect and cooperation. The school fosters a disciplined, caring climate where students are inspired to learn, and encouraged to embrace the responsibilities of good citizenship and leadership, through “A Community of Character.” Inpidual interests, talents, and skills are celebrated alongside our focus on literacy, numeracy, and the value of life-long learning. At Glen Ogilvie we know that the future starts today, in our classrooms, hallways, library, gyms, and on our yard, with each and every child.

Glen Ogilvie Public School is located in the established residential community of Blackburn Hamlet, nestled between Old Innes Road and the Parkway at Bearbrook. There is a thriving bilingual atmosphere in the community. Parks and parkland are abundant in the neighbourhood, and a variety of sporting, recreational, artistic, and educational activities for all age groups are offered locally.

Our Students

We believe that every student should have an opportunity to develop socially, physically, emotionally and intellectually in an environment which fosters a positive self-concept and develops the skills to be readers and writers, to be mathematically literate, and to be critical thinkers.

Here are some quotes from our students:

  • “The teacher knows how to help me do my best.”

  • “Teachers at Glen Ogilvie are very smart and nice and we do lots of fun and exciting things.”

  • “My teacher smiles a lot and always talks to me.”

Our Community

Volunteers are welcome partners in our school community, and their contributions directly support curriculum initiatives, including field trips and sports events as well as adding the personal touch to our cultural and school spirit events. Our milk, lunch, and nutritious snack programs are appreciated and eagerly anticipated by students and parents. The City of Ottawa offers a Before and After school program on site for school-age children grades 1 through 5, and Children’s Universe Day Care has an on-site program for kindergarten through grade 5. The Glen Ogilvie School Council is committed to maintaining a strong relationship between home, school, and the wider community served by the school, and to help each student develop to his or her full potential. The School Council works closely with staff to promote a positive school climate, encourage school spirit, to support curriculum initiatives, and to organize fundraising events.

Safe Schools Initiatives

The Glen Ogilvie Safe and Caring School Committee consults with staff and plans for school-wide or pision specific initiatives with the support of the Principal and School Council. Assemblies and special guest visits provide opportunities for staff to guide students to explore issues of personal safety while learning the responsibilities of good citizenship. Assemblies offer an opportunity to review safety and character keys through skits, presentations, and student interaction.

Our Code of Behaviour encourages students to demonstrate a respectful and caring demeanour. We count on ongoing consultation with our School Resource Officer (Ottawa Police Services) to provide up to date information and guidance for students and families. Our Social Worker offers family guidance, inpidual student support, and contributes to our school team support of students and families in need. The Glen Ogilvie STAR student bulletin board recognizes inpidual and team student successes, academic excellence, school community spirit, student responsibility, and implementation of our Code of Behaviour.

Both our Anaphylaxis Protocol and our Diabetic Protocol are examples of medical protocols that are clearly and fully established at Glen Ogilvie. We count on and appreciate support from the entire community as we strive to keep our school a safe place for all students.
